Well, as promised, here is what I saw from Taveras in last night's loss to the Royals.
He had a good day at the plate, going 1 for 3 with 1 RBI. He hit a single in his first at-bat and hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. He didn't appear to swing at any bad balls and hit the ball hard, so he may just be the hitter many scouts pegged him to be.
Unfortunately, I don't have much to say about his defense. It's not that it was bad, but he didn't have much of a chance to prove anything about his defense. I only remember 2 balls going to right field and they were both hits that no player, not just Taveras, would have gotten to. From what I can tell, the jury is still out on his defensive prowess.
